NEXT GEN SUSTAINABILITY
CANVIL
The Canvil reimagines the metalsmith’s' Anvil as a near-future platform capable of reshaping waste aluminium cans into various upcycled products for everyone.
Challenging the "Out of Sight, Out of Mind" status quo of Singapore's recycling infrastructure; characterised by passive public participation, poor sorting habits, sprawling collection networks and more are among the deficiencies contributing to Singapore's declining recycling rates.
The Canvil champions a "Done Right, In Plain Sight" approach, enabling the public to directly upcycle aluminium cans in-situ according to their needs and preferences. Users select designs from an open source database, which is then cut quickly, cleanly and efficiently into cans with a pure waterjet Finished kits are then dispensed for final assembly by hand into products ranging from stationery to tools and much more!
This self-directed closed recycling loop aims to return agency and mindfulness to the public regarding recycling as a primer on the circular economy and a more sustainable future.
